Open Letter to Pineville

Last month, South Charlotte Baptist Church had the opportunity to have our morning worship service on the Pineville town square.
The following week, I wrote an open letter to the mayor and town council of Pineville to thank them for allowing us to have our service on the town square. I wanted to share the contents of that open letter with my readers.
An Open Letter to the Pineville Town Mayor and Pineville Town Council:
I would like to begin by thanking each of you for your service to the Pineville Community. I realize that each of you have a different reason for why you decided to enter public life, but I do know that any type of service requires a great deal of sacrifice and I certainly thank you for your service and sacrifice.
My reason for sending you this letter is to thank you for allowing the South Charlotte Baptist Church congregation the opportunity to have our church service on the town square on Sunday, December 21st.
We had a wonderful time singing Christmas carols, sharing testimonies, and, above all things, celebrating the Light of Christmas, Jesus Christ. Many of our congregants commented, after the service, about how much they enjoyed the service and expressing a desire to do it again.
But I would also like to share with you a little of the backstory as to why I desired to have a church service on the town square.
During the summer of 2024, I attended one of the meetings of the Pineville town council. It was during that meeting that the town council was asked to sanction a community event hosted by the LGBTQ+ community. One of the Pineville business owners, who was in favor of such an event, made the following statement: “Pineville is no longer a conservative, farming community.”
I took exception to that statement. While Pineville may no longer be a “farming” community, it was my desire to have one of our church services on the town square to show that there are still individuals who live, work, and shop in Pineville who are conservative; who believe God’s Word; and who love our community.
In 2027, South Charlotte Baptist Church will celebrate 50 years! Through those 50 years (of which I have been a part of half) it has been our desire, as a church, to proclaim the message of the good news of the Gospel and, through the Gospel, for individuals to experience a change in their lives!
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I want you to know that we pray for each of you and our community. If there is anything that I or our congregation can do to be a help to you or to our town, please, do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
I want to encourage our church family to pray for the leaders of the town of Pineville. Pray that God will give them wisdom to lead our community righteously.
