If you have ever traveled in any of the western states, you undoubtedly have been overwhelmed by the majestic beauty which is on display.

One of the questions which often comes to mind is, "How did all of this happen?"

A vast majority of scientists and "educated" individuals will seek to tell you that the topography of the earth is a result of millions (even billions) of years of natural processes (commonly referred to as evolution).

However, even if that was true (and I don't believe that it was), how did those "natural processes" get started? What - or who - was the original cause of all things?

Genesis 7:16 "And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the Lord shut him in."

The Lord Was the Cause

Genesis chapter 6-9 record for us the account of the world wide flood that God, because of the wickedness of mankind, brought upon the earth to destroy all of mankind (with the exception of Noah and his family and the animals that were safely sheltered in the ark).

Genesis 7:11 "In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened."

Who broke up the fountains of the great deep? Who opened the windows of heaven?

Genesis 8:1-2 "And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged; the fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;"

Genesis 8:2 clearly states that God made a wind to pass over the earth which caused the waters of the flood to abate which then helps us understand that it was God who closed the windows of heaven and God who restrained the rain from heaven.

Psalm 93:1" The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved."
Psalm 93:4 "The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea."

If we believe that God is omnipotent - that He is all powerful - than we should have no difficulty in believing - and accepting - the Genesis account of the flood. We do not need to come up with some other explanation for how our world was created; we simply need to accept God's Word in simple faith.

Hebrews 11:3 "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear."

In fact, it is through the world around us that we are led to understand that 1) there is a God and 2) He is powerful!

Romans 1:20 "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:"

If God is powerful enough to create all that we see than He certainly is powerful enough for us to put our trust in.

Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

If you are trying to make sense out of life - out of your life - start by simply believing that God is powerful. Trust Him; believe in Him.
